Crystal Palace star midfielder Eberechi Eze has collaboration with New Balance to release a limited-edition boot, called New Balance Starraiser Furon v7, that is inspired by his Greenwich roots.

Hailing from the South London borough, Eberechi worked closely with New Balance on the design of the boots, drawing on memories from his early years playing football in Greenwich Park, home of the Observatory where he developed his love of the game and honed his skills.

The blue Moonshadow colorway found on the New Balance Starraiser Furon v7 is reminiscent of his first junior team’s football kit, alongside pops of Pixel Green that represent the Observatory’s longitude laser, symbolizing both his professional journey and his one focus – to reach the very top level.

The detail within the design is a nod to Eberechi’s past and future career ambitions. Incorporating highlights of his roots into the boot to inspire the next generation, with striking graphics inspired by the constellation of the stars viewed from the Observatory that represent his drive to always dream big and reach for the stars. Speaking about the boot, Eberechi said:

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to wear the new New Balance Furon v7 and I can already give you a pretty accurate breakdown of what you can expect should you pick-up a pair.

First thing to note, the all-new Furon v7 is crafted for zero distraction and features an innovative Hypoknit upper, with mesh lining and off-set lacing, delivering impressive lockdown, support, and an increased strike zone. Over the past few generations, New Balance has continually upgraded the performance you get from the Furon. We have seen vast improvements in how they feel and fit on foot. So, naturally I was excited to see what these had to offer when they arrived in.

Ok, here is what you can expect. Out of the box, they are going to feel stiff. That wasn’t something I had expected, especially since prior generations were so easy to break in. They lasted about 5 minutes first time I took them out, the upper just felt oddly off. Second wear, they lasted a little longer, but I still couldn’t stay in them an extended period. Even when I was able to wear them for the first full game, they still felt like they were adjusting. It has a lot to do with that off set lacing and how it pulls the boot across your midfoot. It is a different type of lacing system to what we have seen before, so it might need some tweaks. The important thing here is don’t expect that they will break-in quickly.

BUT, when they break in and adjust to your foot shape, my word they are fantastic. I mean, they match the best of the best boots on the market in terms of comfort and form fit. The materials mold around you foot and create the most perfect connection right around your foot. I’ve worn them maybe a dozen times at this point, and I’m absolutely loving them.

I’m going to wear them a few more times, then I’ll piece together a more comprehensive write up on them. But, I wanted to share some initial reaction for those that might be working on breaking them in and wondering if it was worth it. My advice, it will be worth it. They are an excellent boot!

New Balance and Stone Island have revealed their latest collaboration as the two brands reunite to announce their first ever special edition soccer collection.

It is a collection that breaks new ground by bringing renowned textile innovators, Stone Island, onto the pitch for the first time, celebrating the immensely rich heritage the Italian sportswear brand holds in football through some of New Balance’s most popular products.

And the most important piece, in our view anyway, is the limited-edition New Balance x Stone Island Furon v7. It arrives in a custom camouflage print pattern that pays homage to Stone Island’s famed archival pattern, with Stone Island’s compass alongside the New Balance logo. The Furon v7 features an innovative Hypoknit upper, with mesh lining and off-set lacing to deliver impressive lockdown, support, and an increased strike zone, and will be debuted on pitch by New Balance athlete and England star, Raheem Sterling.

Another component of the collection is a Stone Island x New Balance football kit, first sported in September by UK rapper Dave at his Santan Cup tournament in Brazil. Next is ensuring all the material work together in unison and provide comfort right out of the gate. Can the materials mesh together and provide players with a next level type of performance on foot? The answer to that has been a resounding yes, and right out of the box they prove to be super easy to break-in and wear. Everything about the design offers a pliable feel and natural stretch. Even the soleplate provides a flexible bend right out of the box.

This is the type of release that comes in at a mid-tier price point but is intended to compete with upper level silos like the Nike Tiempo, Adidas Copa and Puma King. In other words, they offer a viable alternative for players on a budget that want next level comfort and old school performance. But you also have to factor in that they are not designed to be a long-term solution like those listed, and the materials won’t provide you with the same durability. This also plays a part in the lightweight nature of the silo, and trust me when I say they are far lighter than their competitors. You get the benefit of a modern, lightweight construction, but that also takes a way from the lifetime of your pair.

An interesting addition that I’m a real big fan of lies on the inside of the boot, around the heel area. New Balance has placed three strategically positioned comfort pods, intended to grip your heel while reducing pressure in the area. They actually work really well and allow for a more secure fit without any unnecessary distractions.

And then we arrive at the all important question – how do they fit? Well, I’d compare them as being a suitable true to size option, with a comfortable medium-wide fit. This might reside more on the medium side of the scale starting out, as you loosen up the materials. But that K-Leather upper will give you some stretch during wear, adjusting to your foot shape over time. For those with a wider fit, New Balance has the solution for you; there is a wide fit version available!
