Lotto Maestro 100 IV Review

Over the past year, the Lotto Maestro 100 IV has become one of my go to pair of boots, with this being the second colorway I’ve been able to play test. If I was to summarize the silo, they are a very impressive boot that has been crafted for those that like to be creative on the pitch. Simple, yet effective. That should give you some indication of where this review is headed!

Breaking In and Comfort

When you put them on for the first time, the fit/shape feels a little off, kind of pulling your foot to one side. Key here it to open up the laces, let the fit hug your foot, then re-tighten them. Even though the tongue region features a stretch knit material, loosening the laces gives the material a chance to breathe and manipulate itself around your foot. I wore them for the first time around my office, just to get a feel for the shape and ensure there were no pressure points. From there, I dared to take them straight into a game and the results were very positive – thankfully! When you add in the tried and trusted PuntoFlex soleplate, they are the type of boot that provide confidence from first wear, and a distraction free level of performance.

Something else comfort wise that I really enjoy, is that knit material around the opening. It creates a snug and secure, hugging your foot without any pressure points. If you look along the lacing, the MAESTRO text sits up along the front of your ankle, a little higher than where a traditional tongue would fit. Again, it is a knit, so its purpose is to enhance a distraction free fit, which I’d agree it definitely does.

Lotto Maestro 100 IV Control Upper

Lotto Maestro 100 IV Touch and Control

In Game Performance

Performance wise, they tout several unique technologies designed to enhance control, response, and comfort. The Control-Fit 3D knit upper found in the prior generation remains and provides an anatomical fit along with support where you need it thanks to a light cage overlay.

My experience on pitch was very positive from the very beginning. I was initially a little confused by the heel design. The cut on the upper opening is slightly lower, and it feels like there is a mini window cut out right where your heel bone sits. I’ve actually recommended these as an option for players with heel spurs, as it reduces direct pressure without you having to cut the heels out with a scissors. We have seen several pro players do this in the past, so I’m wondering if Lotto was trying to create a new type of solution to a very common problem. According to Lotto, this technology is actually called ADAPTO, and in their words it is “a knit element providing comfortable support while relieving irritating pressures on the tendons around the heel.” When you wear them, they actually feel pretty spectacular on foot and I quickly started to really enjoy everything about the heel area. What makes them different is the fact it is primarily a knit material around the ankle opening, so you have some natural movement and no firm area of material pressing against your skin.

When it comes to the upper forefoot and ball strike area, Lotto has gone with a structured knit design and thin synthetic overlay. This helps keep the shape in place and allows for added ball manipulation. The design is 3D, with a similar style dimple definition to what you would find on a golf ball. That added definition plays extremely well on the ball when coupled with the pliable knit material. You get excellent feel on the ball with the bonus of extra grip for small touches. In my personal opinion, this creates the type of modern day zone that combines perfectly as a control option with shot striking ability; the material moves very naturally and you get an added strike component thanks to the shape of the knot material.

Lotto Maestro 100 IV Control Fit

Lotto Maestro 100 IV Lacing System

Lotto Maestro 100 IV Soleplate Traction

Soleplate and Traction

Underfoot, you get two new updates; an improved version of PuntoFlex that provides fantastic responsive flexibility, and a new BFC (Biomechanical Foot Control) pebax insert found in the soleplate to provide stability and complement a natural running motion through its variable stiffness. I was able to break these boots right into a game, so from personal experience the soleplate provides exactly what you need – a distraction free level of performance! Key to that is also the conical style stud configuration and their placement underfoot. It makes them ideal for use on FG and AG fields, you can switch them up between grass and turf surfaces with confidence.

How do they Fit?

In terms of fit, I found them to be very much true to size length wise. They offer a medium-wide fit through the forefoot thanks to the extra stretch you get from the upper material. They ankle opening features knit, so there is the bonus of added stretch to be able to slip your feet into the boots. It provides a snug fit without you needing a shoe horn to get into them. I didn’t encounter any discomfort through wear, no pressure points or areas of discomfort.

Lotto Maestro 100 IV Adapto Tech

Lotto Maestro 100 IV Adapto Heel Design

Critics Notes

I’m interested to know how different they would feel on foot without the soft window in the heel area. Not necessarily a negative, I’m more curious to know if there would be a positive difference for players that prefer a more solid feel through the heel. The one critic note I’d offer is that we don’t see Lotto advertising these anywhere, and it is such a shame. The same was through with the Under Armour Clone Magnetico, both being top performing boots from smaller brands. Without any advertising, it is difficult to see many people choosing them over bigger names, losing out on what is most likely an elite level experience.

Retail Details

Just as I was finishing this review, I noticed this Black/Acacia Green colorway dropped in price to $160. Perfect timing! The original retail value in the range is $200 with just 2 colorways available in the US.

Find them both (and any new colorways) at SOCCER.com.

The Skinny Summary

Highlight: A modern day control hybrid that offers excellent performance and comfort through wear.
Category: Control
Weight: 7oz
Would I Buy Them: Yes – these are some of the best boots Lotto has released in recent times. And on sale, they offer excellent value.
Player Position: If you experience any heel pain, they are a top option. In terms of playing style, anyone that appreciates close control and natural touch on the ball will enjoy them most.

Lotto Solista Gravity Laceless in Blue

We snoozed a little on this pair, as Lotto has already moved on to their next generation of laceless boot. But, we still wanted to do a quick up-close feature on the Lotto Solista 100 III Gravity for those interested in finding out what they are all about.

If you didn’t know, Lotto were the very first brand to introduce laceless soccer boots to the market, way back in 2006. But, they have never really nailed down overall performance and a truly as-one fit with their boots. Where the Solista 100 takes a step forward is in the collar design, with Lotto taking some much needed inspiration from the likes of Nike and adidas, using a more adaptive knit materials rather than tough, unpredictable rubber.

I’ll start by saying that this is a great little package that is presented really well by Lotto. Inside the box and along with the actual boots you will find a much needed shoe horn, a signature black boot bag, and some nifty posters highlighting lotto’s long laceless journey. All together, it is much more than you will find in a box of elite level boots from other big brands.

Lotto Solista 100 III Gravity Blue

Lotto Solista 100 III Gravity Knit Collar

Lotto Solista 100 III Gravity Upper Design

The Lotto Solista 100 is built to be streamlined and agile and from the first time you see them in person you can tell what they are all about. Lotto has plenty of experience working on laceless designs, they have modified and tweaked the design numerous times since the original. And I can say with confidence that these are easy the best they have created. Using a knit collar is a game changer, providing players with a much more responsive fit around the ankle and a much more comfortable level of performance.

Even the upper design has been significantly upgraded, lotto use a one-piece 3D knit that features a textured embossing through the forefoot, enhance grip and control on the ball. When everything is factored in, they are a surprisingly durable boot that stills offers a very responsive feel and fit.

I will note that out of the box, they do feature a very snug fit. The first thing you will need to do is use the included shoe horn to squeeze your foot in. Don’t leave the shoe horn at home in the box, because you will need it the first few times you go to put the boots on. The upper needs to have a lockdown fit in order to ensure you are not falling out of them during play. So, expect a little adjustment phase as you allow the materials to gently stretch to your foot shape. Needless to say, this is even more true if you have a wider foot shape, don’t rush the process. I have a medium to wide fit and found that after a few wears they felt comfortable, a lot more comfortable than the first time I put them on! They lasted all of 15 minutes on their debut out of the box. After that, I wore them around at home, letting the materials loosen to my fit, before taking them out on pitch again.

Laceless Lotto Solista 100 III Gravity

Lotto Solista 100 III Gravity Soleplate Professional

Laceless Lotto Solista Heel Design

Undefoot, you get all the tried and trusted Lotto tech that you expect. And it performs just as consistently as on previous models. Punto Flex Technology enhances the flexibility and reactivity through the forefoot area. Lotto has placed 6 EVO-studs (semi-circle with a little chunk taken out) in strategic areas to improve traction, acceleration, braking and sudden direction. Added to that are 5 conical studs to improve stability, flexibility, easier multidirectional moves and take off from ground.

And finally, the most unique aspect of the Lotto Stadio is that they are the most affordable laceless boot on the market, dropping in under $200. That isn’t cheap, but it certainly is a price tag that is more attainable, and there are likely to be more players who can entertain that price. Our pair – pictured in Blue Azure – are now sold out, with Lotto already releasing the next generation model at the same price point. It also doesn’t seem like there have been many updates outside of the actual visual design.

Lotto Release Solista 100 IV Gravity

Lotto has dropped their latest generation of laceless speed with the official introduction of Solista 100 IV “GRAVITY”, available with a totally new geometrical graphic design and a super light upper that guarantees weightlessness.

It was way back in 2006 when Lotto became the first brand to ever release a laceless boot, and this latest version carries on the brands legacy. Created using an internal sock for optimal lockdown feel, the upper is thin enough to guarantee high sensitivity for perfect ball control. The one-piece 3D upper wraps the foot like a glove, allowing for greater aerodynamics, precision and support for the ankle. There are many challenges when creating a boot like this, but the end result according to Lotto is “a feeling of absolute comfort and a straight fit that manages to improve agility during performance.”

Lotto Solista 100 IV Laceless

We are still on the Solista 100 III here in the US, with remaining pairs on sale. We have learned in the last few years that they don’t move new silos into the market very quickly, so currently they are released with an unknown availability date.

*UPDATE – They are now available at SOCCER.com.

It makes them ideal for use on FG and AG fields, you can switch them up between grass and turf surfaces with confidence.

In terms of fit, I found them to be very much true to size lenght wise. They offer a medium-wide fit through the forefoot thanks to the extra stretch you get from the upper material. I didn’t encounter any discomfort through wear, no pressure points or areas of discomfort.

Lotto Maestro 100

Lotto is a brand that has been pretty quite on the US market in recent times. Well, they are back as they unveil the Maestro 100 II, the new shoe designed for players who work to reinvent the game and rewrite rules with their brilliant skills.

Designed for perfect ball control, the Maestro features a seamless microfiber upper with small rubber strips that offer more grip and control on the ball. A higher cut collar provides glove-like sensitivity and total comfort, as Maestro envelopes the foot and contains it through quick changes in pace.

Outside of that, there is not a whole lot else we know about what the Maestro 100 has on offer from a performance perspective. They look like a boot with a lot of potential. We do hope to have a pair in to test in the next week or two, and will get a review pieced together as soon as possible.

Until then, you can find them available at soccer.com.

Lotto Solista 100 Gravity Knit Laceless Boots

It seems like a while since we have seen any new boots come through the pearly gates of Lotto Sports. Here in the US, it is actually tough to find any Lotto boots these days. But, it looks like they are back with a modernized laceless boot, already being introduced in Italy.

The next generation of Lotto Solista 100 Gravity has a fresh look and more importantly, updated knit materials through the collar. Lotto were the very first brand to introduce laceless soccer boots back in 2006, but they never got the performance right. It looks like they have taken some tips from the likes of Nike and adidas by using a more adaptive knit materials rather than tough, unpredictable rubber. Overall, the end result looks pretty promising, or at least much improved on previous generations.
